On Gandhi Jayanti Day (Oct. 2, 2021) NavJan organized an inter-faith prayer service at St. Claret School Auditorium, bringing together a host of guests and religious leaders of different faith traditions and ideologies. The theme of the programme was ‘Gandhiji’s Concept of Non-violence, A Path to Nation Building’.
Fr. Joseph M, the organizer and Director of NavJan, welcomed the guests, religious leaders and audience. The Chief Guest was Dr. Ranga Ranjan Das, the director of Law Research Institute, Guwahati High Court and the moderator was Amrit Kumar Goldsmith, secretary, Assam Christian Forum.
Fr. Jose K. SVD, the director of Sanskriti, Guwahati and representative from different religions lighted the traditional lamp. The Holy Books scriptures were brought in procession to the stage by respective religious representatives followed by hymn of homage were performed by the Sisters of St. Clare’s Convent.
Swamy Atmasuddhananda, secretary, R.K. Mission, Guwahati and Dr. Dipak Goswami spoke on the perspectives of Hinduism. Allen Bruke, spokeperson of Assam Christian Forum, dwelt on Christian point of view. Najib Ahmed from Axom Nagarik Samaj and Ataur Rahman, Imam of Hojai, Assam, Burhan Uddin, Imam, Bongara and Wazuddin Dewan, Imam, Kahikusi spoke and prayed from Islamic point of view.
Dr. Nabajit Deka, HoD Govt. Art College, Guwahati spoke on Sankardev point of view and Ms Kusum Mukari spoke on Gandhian concept of Non-violence.
The speakers and the participants urged the need of for religious harmony and peaceful coexistence as the need of the hour. Students from the Assam Don Bosco University anchored the program and Rev. Dr. Benoy Joseph, CMF Superior & Principal of St. Claret School proposed the vote of thanks.
